"The enormous gap between what US leaders do in the world and what Americans think their leaders are doing is one of the great propaganda accomplishments of the dominant political mythology."

Michael Parenti, political scientist and author

Depleted Uranium Weapons

DU munitions are made from radioactive wastes produced while enriching uranium used in nuclear power generators and weapons. Uranium munitions are a deadly WMD that have been banned by virtually all existing international treaties, conventions, protocols, and articles of war.

Our government uses DU weapons in a broad range of armor-piercing projectiles from 30mm bullets to 1.5 ton ‘Bunker Buster’ bombs. DU burns and vaporizes into indestructible poisonous dust particles on impact.

The DOD & Pentagon cherish these superior weapons and will not give them up despite established public health risks. They carefully and intentionally base their policy of use on biased science which studies only external radiation exposure while the real risks, internal uranium, go unmeasured. DU dust from vaporized shells can be ingested by breathing (it also contaminates food, water and threatens all living systems) and has significant internal effects as the radiation damages important proteins, cells, and the foundation of life- DNA.

These tiny nuclear particles can be airborne and dispersed great distances from the target area. Thus neither innocent civilians nor non-targeted military personnel are safe from these particles which are toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic. DU weapons truly are "dirty bombs."

Active military personnel, veterans and their families, and innocent civilians have been exposed to these radiological poisons since 1973 when DU was first used in combat. Birth defects and mutations, cancers, and chronic diseases including Gulf War syndrome are all associated with internal DU exposures.

The message is very clear -- the radiation level in "depleted" uranium is NOT safe and WON'T be depleted to any safe degree for billions of years.

According to Dr. Doug Rokke, U.S. Army health physicist who led the team attempting to clean up depleted uranium from the first Gulf War battlefield, "Depleted uranium is a crime against God and humanity."
